Son of David Rose Drake and Catherine Burckhartt

m: Susan E. Todd Jun 8 1848
ch inc:
-David Robert abt 1849-(not in 1850 census, was he infant or born after 1850 census?)

1850 Aug 22, Platte City MO.: DRAKE Chas R/26/MO/Doctor, Susan E/20/MO, PERRY Keith, Merchant, CLARK Robt P/28/Merchant, TILLERY Clayton/21/Clerk.
Next household THORNTON Charles/KY Doctor and wife Frances/MO.

The Charles R. and Susan E. in above census not proved to be this Charles, but appears to be so.

Puzzle: Why did Charles go from Mo. to CA. after the Aug 22 census and what caused his death there on Oct 12, such a short time later. His brother, Jessie Ward, left for CA in 1859 to join the gold rush, did Charles do the same? If so they both died very soon after reaching California.

Transcription of text from Thornton family bible, posted by Travis Thornton:
