Son of David Rose Drake and Caroline Burckhartt

m: Elizabeth Jane Pinnell August 14, 1845
ch:
-Harriet Adelia 1846-1877
-Charles Ward 1848-1930

After their marriage Jessie and Elizabeth lived a little while in Rose Hill, Johnson county, then Mr. Drake was deputy county clerk for awhile in Henry county. In the spring of 1849, Jessie got the gold fever and went to California and October 1850, he died at Sacramento, Cal., with cholera. While he was away he left his young wife with his father in the Drake's Chapel neighborhood. She married Dr. E. C. Royston July 26, 1854. They moved to Huntingdale in 1855.

Son Ward Drake was involved in the mercantile business at Huntingdale.

May be buried in the Drake Family Cem, Henry CO MO. with parents, but it it seems unlikely a cholera body would have been shipped across country. No CA death record found.

Several young men from Henry County area joined in the gold rush and some died. It appears Jessie and his wife's brother, James Pinnell, went together and both died of cholera, leaving young wives with infants.

Alert: There is an entry for Elizabeth Jane Pinnell Royston (#13981368) at Paul Cem., Henry Co., where there is a double stone as "Eliza J." with 2nd husband Dr. Royston. It is not known if she was moved from one to the other, or which cemetery her remains are resting.
