His birth mother was Mary Taplin-Cass. She did not make it to Wisconsin. Believed to be buried in Pennsylvania.

In 1850 U S Census he is living at Honey Creek, Sauk, WI with his father, step-mother and siblings.
In 1856 he purchased Sec. 7, Little Willow, Richland Co., WI.
He then moved to Spring Green, Sauk, WI. "and purchased a farm".
In abt. 1860 "he returned to this county" (Richland Co.) and by 1884 "he now has 120 acres of the 160 under cultivation, has erected good frame buildings....."
Married: Margaret Jane Beaver on 26 Jun 1859 in Sauk Co, WI. "At the home of Hiram Cass, who lived northeast of Spring Green, where Erastus Mercer now resides" (same newspaper article as mentioned below).
Baraboo, WI newspaper, July 8, 1909: "Mr. and Mrs. George Cass Celebrate Golden Wedding-Residents of West Spring Green Pass Fiftieth Mile Stone of Married Life" Their photos are included. It is mentioned that George was born in Wellsburg, Ohio..Is this now West Virginia along the Ohio River?
