Mary Louise Enochs (1912 - 2011)
Mary Louise Leach Enochs, 99, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in Sherman. Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Handley United Methodist Church. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mary was born Feb. 17, 1912, in Blackwell to Charles Mathis Leach and Gertrude Mauzey Leach. Louise attended schools in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. She graduated from Booneville, Ark., High School as salutatorian and received a scholarship to Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. Louise taught high school in DeQueen, Ark., and in Parker County as well as at Village Creek Elementary and West Handley Elementary in Fort Worth. She then went on to receive a master of education degree. She served as librarian seven years for several east Fort Worth schools. After 31 years of teaching she retired from the Fort Worth ISD. Louise met her future husband, Harry Bartell Enochs, a soldier from Camp Wolters, the Sunday after Pearl Harbor. It was the day for Englewood Methodist Church, of which she was a member, to host the soldiers for worship and lunch. They were married Sept. 30, 1944 in Berkeley, W.Va., and shared 39 years of loving marriage together. Hobbies she enjoyed were quilting, sewing, gardening, oil painting and reading. The Enochs were faithful, involved members of United Methodist Church. They attended Englewood, Whitesboro and Handley congregations. She taught Sunday school, organized a library at Handley United Methodist Church, was a member of United Methodist Women and a supporter of Methodist Children's Home in Waco.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a baby son; brothers, Ned Leach, John G. Leach and S.C. Leach; sisters, Grace Dallas, Dora Leach, Flora Long; and niece, Charla Leach.
Survivors: Brother, sisters, five nephews; 16 nieces; numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great- nieces and those who married into the Leach family whom she dearly loved.
