SOLOMON FITZGERALD, lumber man and ex-county treasurer, Tionesta, was born in Farmington Township, Clarion Co., PA, March 22, 1835, and is a son of John and Susan Dunkle Fitzgerald, both natives of Pennsylvania of Scotch-Irish descent, and early settlers of Clarion Co. Solomon was reared and educated in his native country and in 1858 he located in what is now Barnett Township, this country. He was in the Civil War, enlisting on April 1861, and was assigned to Company E, Eleventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Corps; was wounded at Charles City Cross Roads in the seven days' fight before Richmond; was taken prisoner and spent forty days in Libby and Belle Isle prisons, when he was exchanged and then rejoined his regiment at Alexandria, VA. He was aftewards, twice wounded at the battle of Fredersickburg, being shot through the leg and right wrist and was honorablly discharged on account of wounds in September, 1863. After his return home he engaged in lumbering in Forest County until 1886, when he was elected treasurer of the county for a term of three years. He married in 1865, Rebecca, daughter of William and Marie Keister Henry, of Farmington, PA., and they have three children living... Albert W., Mary, and Samuel. Mr. Fitzgferald is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; I.O.O.F.; and K. of P., and P.O.S. of A. Politically, he is a Republican.


SOLOMON FITZGEALD was born in Clarion County, PA, March 22, 1835, and was the son of John and Susanna Dunkle Fitzgerald, deceased. His wife was born in Clarion County, Aug 11, 1835 and thier marriage was consummated at Scotch Hill, PA, June 15, 1865. She was a daughter of Wm. and Marie Keister Henry, long desceased. By this marriage there are six children: Addie E. (died July 21, 1867), Cora (died Aug 9, 1875), Albert M., Hattie M., (died Feb 13, 1877), Mary J. and Samuel. When the war broke out and the Nation's flag was being trailed in the dust in the South, our subject responded April 1861, from Brookville, PA. He was enrolled as a private in Co. K, 11th Ps., Res. V.C., 4th Brig, 1st Div., 5th A.C. At the battle of Charles City Cross Roads, he was wounded through the right leg, July 1, 1862; for this wound, he was treated in St. Mary's Hospital, MD, thirty day he was again wounded at Fredericksburg through the right wrist aand also in the right arm, which has always left him with a still arm. At the former battle, he was taken prisonier and was confined inh Libby, three weeks and Belle Isle, three weeks. He was honorable discharged at Philadelphia, PA, Sept 16, 1863, having taken part in the battles of Richmond, seven days' fight, south Mt. Antietam, Fredericksburg and several skirmished. His wife's father served during the was of 1812; her brother, Calvin and our subjects brother, WM, were in service. Comrade Fitrzgerald has been county treasurer of Forest County, he is Sergt, of Capt, Stowe Post; he is also laborer and his address is Tionesta, PA
