John Fitzgerald was married twice and had children with each wife. Between 1813 and 1815 he moved to Mifflin County, PA., then moved again in 1823 to Farmington, which is now part of Clarion County, PA. He married first to Susanna Dunkle of Venango Co., PA and with her had four children (Daniel, Solomon, Susannah and Sarah). After his first wife died, John married Mary Beers and had five more children (John, James, Amos, Elmer and Mary). John was in the lumber business, which was a common form of local employment. Fitzgerald family researcher Ethel Stark has made significant and valued contributions over the years to the western PA Fitzgerald family history and should be recognized here for her work in straightening out which kids came from which wife and in some cases, determining who came from which of two main, unrelated groups of Fitzgeralds in the area.
