Lloyd Griffith was the third child of maybe as many as seventeen children born to William Henry Ridgely and Hannah Reed (Simmons) Ridgely. In a number of family papers and family records his name is spelled as Loyd. He never married. In his Father's Will - he was given responsibility for the children still at home, and for the ones that were unable to live independently. In the 1860 census of Wabash County, Illinois, he is listed as head of the family and included Eliza, Charles, Nicholas, and Samuel. In his old age he lived with his nephew, George William Ridgely, Medad's son, on the home place. He spent his life caring for his three retarded brothers - Charles, Nicholas, and Samuel. He was alway kind and sympathetic, so seldom complained of anything or anybody, tho suffering very poor health for so many years, his living to almost his 96th year is indeed surprising, and proves that careful dieting and habits will ensure long life for even frail constitutions.
