Orrick was the fourth child of maybe as many as seventeen children born to William Henry Ridgely and Hannah Reed (Simmons) Ridgely. He married Nancy Harrison on January 2, 1840. To this union was born seven children - William H., George Willis, Hannah, James, Lucinda, Russel, and Ira. Both Orrick and his wife Nancy are buried in the Ridgely family cemetery in Richland County, Illinois.
