Ellen Josephine Valentine was born May 11, 1901, in Keymar, Carroll County, Maryland, the daughter of Calvin Horkey and Mary Susan Shorb Valentine. On January 1, 1920, in Carroll County, she married Eureka Gregg Kiser, son of James Alfred and Annie Louise Bentzel Kiser. They were the parents of 2 children: Richard Valentine Kiser and Pauline Mildred Valentine Kiser. Ellen passed away on October 18, 1987, in Keymar, and was buried on the 21st in Keysville Union Cemetery, Keysville, Carroll County, Maryland.

"Ellen J. Kiser, 86, Keymar, Maryland, died Sunday at her home after an extended illness. Born May 11, 1901, near Keymar, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Calvin H. and Mary Shorb Valentine. She was the wife of E. Gregg Kiser. Besides her husband, she is survived by two nieces, Ethel McClung of Ohio and Mrs. Hazel Liller, Florida. She was predeceased by a brother, Lenni Valentine. She was a member of Keysville Lutheran Church and was their organist for 34 years, a member of the LCW group of the church, and taught with the Church Sunday School. She worked with her husband on the family farm for 40 years. The family will receive friends at Skiles Funeral Home in Taneytown Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Mrs. Kiser will lie in state at the Keysville Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at which time services will begin with her pastor, Rev. James Russell, officiating. Interment will be in Keysville Union Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Keysville Lutheran Church, c/o Carol Bowers, Treasurer, 6060 Keysville Road, Keymar, Maryland 21757."
