Wilbur S. Abbott - longtime farmer
Services for Wilbur S. Abbott are 10 a.m. Friday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service. Mr. Abbott, 84, of New Castle, died Tuesday morning, October 3, 2000 in Henry County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was a farmer in the Mooreland area for many years. He worked at Mooreland Grain Elevator and IMC of Blountsville. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Mooreland and was a member of the Mooreland Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was born Nov. 22, 1915 in Mooreland, a son of Edward and Nellie Brown Abbott.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, whom he married November 4, 1935: three sons, Edward Lee (wife: Sandy) Abbott of Muncie, Ronald Dean (wife: Erika) Abbott of Mt. Summit, and Don Abbott of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters: Linda (husband: Bruce) White of Fowler, and Penny (husband: Tim) Surber of Zionsville; a brother: Henry (wife: Wilma) Abbott of Mooreland; a sister Edna Boyer of Demings, NM; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae and Esther; and a grandson: Donald C. Abbott, Jr.
The Rev. David Dudenhofer will officiate Friday's service. Burial will follow in Mount Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where there will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Mooreland Masonic Lodge.
Pallbearers are: Ty Surber, Chad White, Jeff Abbott, Tom Abbott, Stuart White, Dean Abbott, Shawn Abbott and Jimmy Surber

At the Friends parsonage in Mooreland Saturday, Nov. 9, Wilbur Abbott, son of Ed and Nellie Abbott, was married to Lora Juanita Brown, daughter of Lee and Jessie Brown of Hagerstown. The bridegroom was dressed in a black suit and the bride wore Elenora blue. The ceremony was read at 2 p.m. Rev. C.B. McKean read the single ring ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Abbott will be at home, southwest of Mooreland, on the Ed Abbott farm, after a short honeymoon.
