Donald Junior Acker, 80, of Goshen, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 30, 2011. He was born June 19, 1930 in Gratiot County, Michigan to the late Cecil B. and Mary I. (French) Acker.
On October 26, 1957 he married Joan Siebert in Lansing, Michigan. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, David (Adonna) Acker of Elkhart, Michael Acker of Goshen, and Patrick Acker of Shipshewana; six grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Wenzel of LaGrange, and Joanne Badge of Greenville, Michigan; and 20 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rozella Pascoe and Leola Acker and a brother, Walter Acker.
Mr. Acker entered the Army in 1952 and served for two years before entering Michigan State University in East Lansing. He graduated in 1958 and joined Comfo Sleep, Inc. in Wakarusa. In 1963 he started Jone Furniture, Inc. in Wakarusa and in 1969 he purchased T&M Rubber, Inc. in Goshen. In 1982 he started Michiana Mattress.
A Goshen resident since 1958, he was a member of the American Legion Post 210 in Middlebury.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 2, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. A 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2011, funeral service will be held at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Arnold of Pine Ridge Bible Church officiating. The military Honor Guard will salute Mr. Acker following the funeral service.
Burial will follow in Richlawn Cemetery, Breckinridge, Michigan.
