After Fred became ill and retired after many years of working for the railroad they decided to become owners of the Paul Hotel in Montezuma, Iowa. For relatives it was an exciting place to come to visit. In 1960 they retired from the hotel business to Phoenix Arizona. After Fred died Amie longed for her childhood home and returned for a few years back to Montevideo and her roots. Missing her grandchildren and wanting to be close to daughter Dodie, not to mention the warm climate, Amie returned to Arizona for her last years. Her remains, along with Fred’s ashes, are now together at the Amundson gravesite in Montevideo.
