The middle child, Ruth Amundson married the Henry Anderson the owner of a dry goods store in Milan, Minnesota. It was told that Ruth didn't quite approve of her husband's generosity with delinquent bills of some of the patrons, but it was depression time so she figured out ways to barter with the customers exchanging goods. The couple adopted first a daughter, Marjorie Ann and then a year later a son, Archer Lynden. Henry died young leaving Ruth to discover her own talent at running a business. She owned and operated a diner, drive-in, bakery and a restaurant. A couple were The Hippity Hop Ice Cream Shop and The Breeze Inn. Nieces and nephews came during the summer time to work – even on roller skates at the drive-in. Industrious and hard working she attempted painting her restaurant wall freehand in a plaid design. This was in a time before Martha Stewart. Ruth was not afraid of "doing it herself". A favorite family story about Ruth was about a new presser cooker exploding and the chicken ending up stuck to the ceiling of the resturant. Ruth was one to enjoy the joke and laugh at herself. She was available and encouraged nieces and nephews as they became adults. Ruth married another businessman, Lou Mauer and they lived in Phoenix, Arizona near her sisters until her death. "When God made Ruth, he threw away the pattern". She was a special individual – always had a project and enjoyed life.
