Martha Jameson

Martha Jamieson was the sister of Col. Jamieson, of the Virginia Continental Line. [She] seemed to think that if there was not more stir in the family than her husband made all would go to the dogs. She was in a state of restless anxiety. Her face was drawn to a pucker by the smallpox, which she had caught when the British scattered it through Virginia. She was afraid the boys would be shot when hunting or drowned when fishing. A stranger, riding up to the house one day, and hearing her crying, "Where is Nick? where is Val?" was greatly distressed, imagining that the Indians had carried off some of the children, and was amusingly relieved to find that her alarm was about her two grown sons, who had not returned to the house at the usual time. (From The Meriwether and their Connections, Louisa H. A. Minor, 1892.)

—————
Note: Headstone has Martha G. Meriwether; Gaines and Gilmer have been suggested as her middle name; none of the family Bibles that reference her have a middle initial or name.

The Jameson Family Bible records her birth as "Martha born Monday 13 Jun 1743." The Francis Meriwether Bible records her birth and death as "Martha Jameson wife of Francis Merriwether was born 13 June 1743" and "died the 29 May 1818".

The headstone states she died 29 May 1819, aged 74 Years, 11 Mon, 16 Day. The age requires her to have been born in 1744. So either the Bible records are incorrect for both her birth and death years, or the headstone is incorrect for death year.

13 Jun 1743 (Monday) to 29 May 1818 = 74 yea 11 mon 16 day (DOW & death year match Bible records)
13 Jun 1744 (Wednesday) to 29 May 1819 = 74 yea 11 mon 16 day (DOW conflicts with Bible records)
