Martin Houser (birth name Hauser) was the fifth of six known children of Abraham Hauser (1761-1819) and Mary Magdalena Strub Hauser (1761-1839), who married 06 Feb 1786 at Salem, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina.

Rev. Houser was the founder of the Moravian Churches at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana and West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois.

Martin married first to Susanna Chitty (1802-1867) on 14 Apr 1821 at Salem, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Martin and Susanna were the parents of eleven children, nine girls and two boys. The first and last of the eleven children were the boys. Nine of the eleven children reached maturity. The eleven children were:

1. Edwin Theodore Houser (1823-1902)
2. Susanna Elisabeth Houser Fry (1825-1886)
3. Marianna Paulina Hauser Bruner (1826-1891)
4. Sophia Theresa Houser Levering (1828-1897)
5. Malvina Louisa Hauser Luther (1831-1863)
6. Anna Matilda Houser Foster (1833-1900)
7. Emeline (Emiline?) Clara (Charity?, Carla?) Houser Foster (1834-1923)
8. Caroline Malinda Houser Michael (1838-1879)
9. Margaret M. Houser (1840-1848)
10. Sarah Ann Amelia Houser Walser (1841-1875)
11. Amos Comenius Houser (1844-1848)

After Susanna died, Martin remarried to the widow Eliza Burkett Spaugh (1817-1875) on 21 Jun 1868 at Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

We are very fortunate to have links to Martin's parents, both of his two known wives, all eleven of his known children, and three of his five known siblings as included below.
