Sophia W Robison was born in Oasis, Millard,Utah ,August 29,1891. She moved to Gandy, Utah in 1909 to work for the Robison family. She and Stanley Robison married January 25, 1910. They had four daughters: Veva, born April 5,1911; Neva Arlene; Nina, born February 8,1917.; and Jessie born February 8, 1917 and one son, De Mar, was born April 7,1920.
Her husband was critically injured when a train hit the truck he was driving on North Street in Ely, Nevada. He died May 13,1939.
Sophia married John Albert Swain April 20, 1946. She died August 22, 1972.

Sophia Harder Robison Swain was born in the small town of Oasis, Utah on Aug 29,1891, to Sophus Valdemar and Mary Cathrine Erickson Harder. She was one of four children. She spent her earlier years in Oasis, attending school there, until in the early nineteen hundreds when she moved to Snake Valley to work for the Robison family. It was there that she met and married James Stanley Robison on January 25, 1910. They settled down on a small farm in Gandy, Utah. There they raised a family of four girls and one boy - Veva, Nina, Neva Arlene, Jessie and DeMar. They put in long days of hard work to support their family during the depression. Sophia was a talented woman and a hard worker. She spent a great deal of time making clothes for her children as well as for many in the valley. She mended shoes and did carpenter work, making small trunks, cupboards and other things in spite of the fact that she had little to work with. She helped Stanley in the fields and garden doing what ever was necessary to support the family, All this she did willingly with never a cross word to her family, She liked to read to her children and friends, such as "The First Snowflake" and 'The Face on the Bar Room Floor." In 1934 they had to leave the farm because of Stanley's ill health. They moved to Ely, Nevada, where they also suffered many hardships getting started in a new way of life. Stanley finally went into business hauling wood and trucking. They were beginning to get ahead when he was killed in an accident in May 1939. Soon after Sophia went to work in the Troy Laundry where she worked for seven
years until she married Albert Swain on April 20, 1946. They settled in Central Ely and spent many happy years together until he passed away on April 9, 1969. Albert also had five children, - George, William, Don, Ward and Helen, and they became dear to her. During those years she took up such hobbies as making rugs, pillows and all sorts of knick knacks, most of which she gave to her family and friends or as donations to various lodges. Albert would play his guitar and sing to her while she sat and worked on her hobbies and together they made many friends, When he passed away, she was indeed a lonely woman, but she carried on with her many friends and family nearby. She loved to play cards. Sophia was a member of the Relief Society, the American Legion Auxillary, White Pine Unit #3 and the Golden Age Club. She was a thirty one year member of Ely Rebekah Lodge #27. She truly lived up to our obligation to visit the sick and relieve the distressed. Together we often visited with the sick and she always had a cheerful word for them. Two of her girls, Arlene and Jessie, are active Rebekah Sisters. Sophia had a wonderful sense of humor, one never knew what she would come up with next. I remember one bad, snowy night we arrived at lodge where the attendance was few due to the snow. She looked around and then said "Well, we are here because we aren't there." She could always see the fun side of things and always the good side of people. That's how we should remember her.
I will miss our visits across our garden fence, but her memory is our keepsake from which we will never part. God has her in his keeping - we have her in our hearts.
