Thomas Bashaw, son of David and Catherine Stanislaus Bashaw, was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada April 20, 1847, and was past 90 years old. He was of French descent, of a strong, vigorous race, being the last of a family of ten children. He was a resident of Preston Prairie almost seventy years.

On October 23, 1872 he was united in marriage with Flora Haynes, in the house now occupied by the Ross Cummings family. (Note: This might have been Section 14, Mt. Carroll Township.) They started housekeeping on the farm which is now the home of Loomer Downing and family. (Note: This was the northwest part of Section 15, Mt. Carroll Township.) Later they moved to the farm occupied by William Freeman, on Preston Prairie. Later Mr. Bashaw purchased the farm north of Cedar Creek bridge, on the Savanna-Mt. Carroll road, where he built a comfortable home for his family. (Note: This property was in the center of Section 10, Mt. Carroll Township.) In 1912 he sold this farm and purchased the land and built the home where he resided the rest of his life.

Of his immediate family Mr. Bashaw leaves to mourn his death his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle B. Colehour; his foster son, Charles Bashaw; and Miss Susie Yeager, who has been in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bashaw for almost seventy years; and many near relatives. Mr. Bashaw was converted when a young man, and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, to which he remained faithful until his death.
