C. Ann Abbott, 71, of Waterboro, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Ann was born in Waterboro on October 20, 1936 to Percy H. and Ellen E. Abbott. She attended Waterboro schools and was a 1955 graduate of Sanford High School. She joined the U.S. Navy on February 14, 1956 and proudly served her country for 23 ½ years as a medic. During her military career Ann became a licensed practical nurse. She put this to use upon her retirement taking care of several family members and people around the town of Waterboro.

Miss Abbott was very active in the community. She was a member of the Waterboro Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebekah Lodge of East Waterboro where she had served as Past Noble Grand, the Lions Club, the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant IOOF #7 and the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary IOOF #16. Ann will be remembered as a caring and compassionate woman who had a lot of love for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, George and John Abbott and an uncle, George Royce.

Surviving are a brother, Robert Abbott and his wife Dorothy of Gorham; a sister, Audrey Flood and her husband Fred of Vernon, CT; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Wight Abbott of Waterboro and Joanne Laprise Abbott of North Berwick; two aunts, Helen Abbott of Old Orchard and Lydia Mailhot of Beverly, MA; two uncles, Alton (Sam) Abbott of Waterboro and Frank Noyce and his wife Sue of Gorham; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and several close friends.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in South Waterboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
