Gerald J. Vom Baur, 82, of Covington, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at his residence. He was born December 1, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Alonzo Alexander and Gladys Carrie (Jefferis) Vom Baur.

He married Velda Jean Swaim in March of 1954 in Salem, Oregon, and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Curt Vom Baur; two daughters, Lynn (Joel) Glenn, Tawnie Gerken; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald J. "Jeff" Vom Baur II; and three brothers, Gene, Alonzo and Bill Vom Baur.

Mr. Vom Baur attended Woodbury College of Los Angeles, California, the University of Utah, and later obtained his Masters Degree in Business from Wright State University. Additionally, he graduated from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

He was a United Sates veteran, having served with the Army and the Navy. On February 10, 1988, he retired as Director of the Air Force Logistics Command for the Department of Defense headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

He was an active member of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as Secretary, Sunday School Coordinator, Genealogist Specialist, and when in Oregon, a Sunday School Director of many Indian tribes. He had been a member of the local Korean War Veterans organization. He enjoyed his family, woodworking, mowing his lawn, camping and animals. He was a self-taught pianist and organist, and in his younger years he played clarinet while traveling with the Arizona Playboys Band.

A Funeral Service to honor his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, with Bishop Richard W. Cartwright officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Covington, where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.

Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
