Note that his grave marker shows his age at death to be 18 years, while his obituary states 17 years. He was enumerated as age 5 on the 1860 census, suggesting a birth in 1855 is correct and that he was 18 when he died.

OBITUARY.
Died, August 26th, 1873, in Bainbridge, Ross county, Ohio, JESSE SPRINKLE, of consumption, aged 17 years, 6 months and 10 days.
He was a most exemplary and highly esteemed young man, of a pious turn of mind, a kind and true friend, universally beloved and respected by all who knew him, and loved most by those who knew him best. His last request to his brothers and sisters was to place his remains beside those of his brother and sisters in the White Oak Cemetery, and to meet him in Heaven.
Mr. Sprinkle was raised in Fayette county, near Staunton. He leaves many relations and friends to deplore his departure from time to eternity.
The funeral sermon, of rare excellence, was delivered at White Oak Chapel by Rev. Jones, pastor of the Bainbridge M.E. Church, after which his remains were interred in the White Oak Cemetery.
"And though we mourn with human love,
And o'er the flowers of memory weep,
We strive to look above and say,
God giveth this beloved sleep."
