Matt Graba Is Called To Eternal Home - Prominent Orton Township Farm Leader Passed Away Saturday Morning
In the death of Matt Graba, well known farm leader and respected resident of Orton township which occurred at his home Saturday morning at 5:00 o'clock, it again becomes the sad duty of the publisher of this paper to chronicle the death of a lifelong and trusted friend and a worthy citizen. Mr. Graba's death was caused by cancer from which he had been a brave and patient sufferer for some time.
Mathew Graba, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Graba, was born in Hubbard county, Minnesota, on March 22, 1890 and he was 51 years, 7 months and 10 days old at the time of his passing. He moved with his parents to Meadow township, this county, in 1893 and lived there until 1903 when the family moved to Orton township, where deceased continued to live until his death.
He was married to Miss Mabel Thompson on March 30, 1915, and two sons, Earl and George, were born to bless this union, which was parted by the untimely death of Mrs. Graba, which occurred in 1919. On June 1, 1931 deceased was untied in marriage to Miss Estelle Cassidy. Mr, Graba was a leader in civic and public affairs and took a deep interest in farm bureau work, serving as a member of the board and later as president of the Wadena County Farm Bureau. His host of friends deeply mourn the death of a true friend and a man of splendid character.
Deceased is survived by his devoted wife and two sons; his mother, Mrs. Nettie Graba of this village; four sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Dench, of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Rhoda Doll, of Elma, Washington; Mrs. Grace Harms of Meadow township, and Mrs. Mayme Stetzler of Menahga, and two brothers, George of Kansas City, Mo. and Clifford, of Orton township.
Funeral services were held at St. Hubert's Catholic church of Blue Grass Tuesday morning, Rev. Fr. Wm. VanRooy conducting the services. Interment was made in the church cemetery at Blue Grass. A large number of sorrowing relatives and friends attended as a tribute to his memory.
