Thomas M. Bales, who was a retired employee of Swift & Co., died Saturday afternoon at his home. He was 81.
Mr. Bales was born at Bethany, Mo., and came to St. Joseph in 1917. He worked in the cattle kill department 31 years at Swift's, retiring in 1948.
Surviving Mr. Bales are a son, Keith Bales, and a daughter, Mrs. Lena Resing, both of St. Joseph; a brother, Ollie Bales Albany, Mo., four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
