There are many spellings and variations of the name, and different stories about where the name came from. Eventually the name evolved into Lovellette.
Augustin and his brother Guillaume settled near Coffee Creek on the Wabash River. He was a large man, reported to be six feet six inches tall. He traded with both native tribes and white settlers, and floated goods down the river to New Orleans, returning sometimes on foot.
He established a ferry in 1814, crossing the Wabash from Coffee Creek, and this can be found occasionally on old maps, and is marked "Lavelliot" on an 1823 map.
Notes on dates: I have changed the death date to match the photograph of the headstone. D.C. Williams gives a different death date (1 May 1849) for the husband of Eleanor Desloriers, but she shares a stone with this Augustus A. Lovellette, which gives his age at death as "in the 78th year of his age" (i.e., 77). Also, Williams gives the same death date for Augustin's brother Guillaume (William), so it is probably a mistake.
D.C. Williams also gives a different birthdate (ca. 1777). A submitter to FamilySearch (for August Touga, K2HS-5D7) states that the records of St. Francis Xavier report a birthdate of 1776 (year only), while his date of birth (no source) is given as 2 April 1779 (the same date D.C. Williams gives for his brother Guillaume's birth and baptism). Since I haven't seen the parish registers of SFX myself yet, I am speculating that the latter date is a baptismal record, there not having been a priest available at Vincennes since his birth.
Neither of those birthdates matches the age given on the tombstone, which would be about 1772. His parents were married in January 1773 at St. Francis Xavier. However, it is theoretically possible that they married when a priest was not available, and had their marriage convalidated when a priest later came to Vincennes. But that is purely speculative, requiring careful research into the history of the parish, and examining the sacramental registers.
