*Note new monument for Joseph M. Palmer. It was installed June 5, 2020 and has his name and year of birth and date of death. It was furnished by the Veterans Administration. The older monument had deteriorated to the point it could no longer be read as the 2nd photo shows. The 3rd photo was installed in 1883.

In an affidavit in support of Joseph's wife's pension application, Russell Porter Palmer refers to his brother as Joseph McKissick Palmer. Joseph's middle name had not been mentioned before these pension papers were available, not even in his military records, he was always listed as Joseph M. Palmer.

In Joseph's daughter Elizabeth Palmer Glenn's affidavit in the pension files, she mentioned her father's date of death as June 13, 1881. Before these records were available, his date of death was listed as July 21, 1900.

DAR furnished a copy of the receipt of when Joseph's gravemarker was purchased. It also listed his date of death as June 13, 1881. Contract for his gravemarker was July 11, 1893 by Gross Bros, Lee, Mass.
