Son of Benjamin Hezakiah and Elizabeth Roberts Palmer. Elijah was born in Union Co., SC in 1804 and by 1825 is found in Walton County, Ga. On 20 Sept. 1825 he married Mary Moore of Walton County. Her parents are unknown. She was born 13 Mar 1809 in Walton County, where they raised three children until her death on 18 Jan 1863. Their children were as follows:

1. Martha Mabell b. 16 Jan 1827, d. 1912 in Piedmont, Calhoun Co., AL;
2. John W. b.30 Dec 1829 d. 23 Dec 1910 in Loganville, Walton Co., GA;
3. Amasa Marlin "Mace" b. 5 Oct 1832 d. 15 May 1895 in Oak Level, Cleburne Co., AL, where he was murdered.

On 22 Jan 1864 Elijah married a second time to Mary Ellen Cox, also in Walton County. Mary was born 16 Jan 1842 in Georgia and died 10 Mar 1917. Elijah and Mary had six children, of which only three survived to adulthood;

1. Dorah Jane,
2. Elijah William
3. Paralee
