U.S. Congressman. Educated by a private tutor, he engaged in teaching and was an agricultural farmer. He was Justice of the Peace for Moultonborough, New Hampshire, in 1816, trustee of Sandwich Academy in 1824 and selectman of Moultonborough, (1811-29, 32-38). In addition, he was a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1815-23, 27) and served in the New Hampshire State Senate 1824-26, 31-32). In 18333, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed teaching and agricultural pursuits until his death at age 84.
