Irene A. Staab, 89, Hays, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at St. John's Health Care Center, Hays. She was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Hays to Mike A. and Emma (Leikam) Lang.

She married Victor N. Staab in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1959.

She worked as a hostess at the Ramada Inn and retired from Brown's for Ladies in Hays. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and cooking for family gatherings.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Bieker and husband, Kenneth, Ozawkie, and Carol McGuire and husband, Blake, Garnett; two brothers, Mike Lang Jr., Sangar, Calif., and Virgil Lang, Independence, Mo.; four sisters, Edna Critchfield, Hill City, Irma Silkman, Goodland, Mary Jane Sowards, St. Louis, and Pat Riat, Topeka; six grandchildren, Scott Staab and wife, Julie, John Staab and wife, Kristin, Christopher Bieker and wife, Heather, Molly Craig and husband, Gunter, Mitch McGuire and wife, Teri, and Jennifer Waymire and husband, Christopher; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald V. Staab; two brothers, Alex and Eugene Lang; and three sisters, Melvine Bowman-Thomas, Emma Brungardt and Ida Groff.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. A rosary service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
