John, the younger. Veteran of the War of 1812.
Family tradition says that both he and his father, John Boyle (the elder), were captured by the British. They were initially held in a prisoner of war camp of some kind in Canada. But at least one of John, the elder's, two brothers was living near the camp. Both Johns gave their parole that they would not try to escape and were released into the custody of the brother for the duration of the war.
