she was the daughter of Courtland Sims Crosby and Emma Aileen Bowman
She married Alton E. McGirt at Raeford, Hoke County North Carolina on September 8, 1952. They apparently divorced and she moved back to Georgia. However she does have a findagrave memorial in North Carolina, Memorial# 64601169. But her daughter related that Mary's ashes were spread on her son, Altons, grave.
Now Alton also has two Memorials, one in North Carolina, see Memorial# 83899937 and one in Georgia see Memorial# 67168667.
The monument at Enon seems to be a Cenotaph placed by his mother Mary Pauline Crosby McGirt Smith. Mary died in 1999 in Georgia and whether her ashes were spread on the one in North Carolina or the one here at Enon or whether she is buried at Oakland in Waycross is speculation. Confusion reigns when families break apart. -- Billy
