Herman Krediet, 87, of Corsica, SD passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society, Corsica, SD.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at the New Holland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte, SD with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service.


Herman Krediet was born on April 29, 1924 to John and Hilda (Vander Tuin) Krediet on the family farm in rural New Holland, SD. He grew up in the area and attended country school in Douglas County, SD. He went on to farm, work in gravel trucking, small engine/carburetor repair and as a lawn caretaker. On January 10, 1944 he united in marriage to Joyce Serene DeWaard in rural Stickney, SD, to this union four children were born. Joyce passed away November 25, 1975.

He made confession of faith in the New Holland Christian Reformed Church, he also served as a Deacon for the New Holland Christian Reformed Church, was a School Board Member for the New Holland Christian School and a Burial Association Member for the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. On November 10, 1978 he united in marriage to Bernice Hugen. While attending the Phoenix Christian Reformed Church in Arizona he served as an usher. Herman enjoyed making mailboxes, lawn ornaments, toys and pop rivet signs.

Grateful for having shared in Herman's life: his wife, Bernice Krediet of Phoenix, AZ; his four children: Lowell (Kathy) Krediet of Dakota Dunes, SD, Norman (Diane) Krediet of Mankato, MN, Muriel (Larry) Namminga of Avon, SD and Kay (Tony) Eben of Tyndall, SD; four step children: Miriam (Hank) Zoetewey, Rod (Kathy) Hugen, Mark (Jaci) Hugen and Ruth (Bryan) Valencia; thirteen grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Emma) Krediet of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters-in-law: Amy (Everett) De Vries of Omaha, NE and Phyllis (Royce) Van Zee of Corsica, SD; a brother-in-law, Roy Scholten; many nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by: his wife, Joyce Krediet; a great grandson, Joseph Larry Namminga; his parents, John and Hilda Krediet; three brothers: Marion J. (Ann) Krediet, Clifford Krediet and Herman Krediet (in infancy); three sisters: Josephine (Martin) Overweg, Margaret (Gradus) Veurink and Sylvia (Duane) Bruinsma; two brothers-in-law: Corstian (Katherine) DeWaard and Walt (Pearl) DeWaard; two sisters-in-law: Unice (Verlin) Van Der Werff and Adelee Scholten.
