Aurora Center - White Lake - Sylvia Bruinsma, 77, passed away on May 15, 2009, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Lien Funeral Chapel in Stickney, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the chapel.
Sylvia Krediet was born on January 24, 1932 in Douglas County, the daughter of John and Hilda (Vander Tuin) Krediet. She graduated from Corsica High School in 1950 and attended Southern State Teacher's College. She taught grade school at Dakota Christian from 1950-1952.
She married Duane Bruinsma on May 21, 1952, living in Sparta, Wisconsin until Duane's release from the U.S. Army in the fall of that year. In the spring of 1953, they began farming south of White Lake. Sylvia remained on the farm until August, 2008. In addition to farming, Sylvia owned and operated the Bruinsma Upholstery Shop from 1975 until she retired in 2005. Sylvia's life was centered on her family and her faith. She demonstrated her love and caring through simple acts of kindness and giving. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor were always present. She enjoyed antiques, quilting, embroidery, and the companionship of her many friends and family members.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Dwight (Betsy) Bruinsma of San Antonio, Texas, Patricia (Steve) Herr of Sioux Falls, four grandchildren; Melissa (Tyler) Roerig of Sioux Falls; Jon Herr of Red Wing, Minnesota; Travis Bruinsma of Sioux Falls; and Kate Herr of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one-great-granddaughter; Aryn Roerig of Sioux Falls; a sister Margaret Veurink, of Corsica; and two brothers; Herman Krediet of Corsica; and Lloyd Krediet of Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, her parents and four siblings.
