Charles Arndt Died Tuesday
Not in a long time has a death in Hurdland caused a greater shock or more surprise than that of Charles L. Arndt, one of the promising young men of the vicinity, who passed away Tuesday Dec 19 at 11:20 a. m. Charles was taken ill last Friday with tonsilitis and while it was known he was quite ill, it was not felt that his condition was dangerous. Others there have had the same trouble but recovered. Several years ago Charles underwent an operation for removal of his tonsils and since then his throat has troubled him at times.
Charles came to Hurdland with his parents from LaBelle in Marc,h 1914 and has since made his home there. He graduated from the Hurdland high school, and was associated for a time with his father in the hardware business. Later he took up carpentry and was engaged in that business at the time of his death.
He was married to Miss Helen Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Sanders May 22, 1918, Miss Sanders having been a schoolmate in high school. He had been a member of the M.E. Church for a number of years and took a prominent part in its activities and was president of the Epworth League. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow lodge and American Legion.
Charles was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Arndt and also leaves two brothers, Raymond A. of Chicago and Jerome at home, and one sister, Miss Irene, who is teaching at Kansas City, Kan.
The funeral will be a military one and will be from the M. E. Church in Hurdland Thursday afternoon, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. conducted by Revs. Condit and his pastor J. H. Lane.
Charles was well and favorably known and his early demise will cause general regret among his friends. The News joins in extending deepest sympathy to the sorrowing wife and relatives.
