Frank Louis Waymire, 85, died at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello.

He was born March 22, 1926 in Otterbein to the late William and Marie Skinkle Waymire. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Henrietta Waymire and Joan Allbaugh.

He married Vera Maffett in Lafayette on Sept. 22, 1946. She survives. He is also survived by five children, Rex Waymire (wife: Vickie) of Lakeland, Florida, Wayne Waymire (wife: Cathy) of Ambia, Mike Waymire (wife: Susie) of Camden, Susan Waymire (husband: George Cook) of Monticello and Sherry Brown (husband: Justin) of Lafayette; two sisters, Wilma White of Brookston and Jackie Wood (husband: Mike) of Franklin; grandchildren, Matt, Mikie (Jenny), Lizzi (George) Lind, Charlie (Kortney) and Mandy Waymire; great-grandchildren, Rylie, Sydnie, Katie, Brandon, Emily, Micheal, Sara, Joey and George; 13 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations in Company E, 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. As a staff sergeant in the infantry, he participated and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was carried from the front lines to EVAC hospital by captured German soldiers. After recovering, he was promoted to a Military Police post. After the war, he was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany, where part of his duty was to guard prisoners at the Nuremburg Trials. He was awarded the Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, German Occupation Medal, EAME (European) Theater Ribbon with 2 Stars, Purple Heart, Battle and Campaign ribbons from Rhineland and Central Europe. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
