Vera Loretta Waymire has passed at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at IU/Arnett Hospital of Lafayette, IN.

Vera was born on Aug 11, 1929, at home in Perrysville, IN. She lived there until her family moved to Shadeland, IN. and then moved on to Ash Grove, IN. in 1942. Vera met Frank Waymire in 1944 and got married in Lafayette on Sept. 22,1946, after Frank was honorably discharged from his service during WWII.

Vera settled into the strenuous life of being a valued partner with Frank of running a farm, Vera was hands-on in all aspects of farm work. While running the house and raising a young family, Vera would also be running a tractor with a disk plow followed by Frank running the planter. After the field work, Vera would tend to her growing family, and then prepare meals for all participating farm crews during hay bailing season. She would prepare meals for over a dozen workers and deliver warm meals to the fields, long before anyone heard of GrubHub or DoorDash.

Vera loved her Church, Battleground United Methodist. Throughout her many years of volunteering, she held virtually every office and teaching position in the Church. As an Usher, no one came into the Church without a hug from Vera (with a kiss following) She loved working in the Nursery. Young families that brought their babies, infants and toddlers into her room, would bring her immense joy. Her Church friendships spanned many generations. Vera was also the unofficial 'captain' of the Church Bazaar. She would take donations of jewelry, clean and repair as necessary and present for sale to raise amazing amounts of money for the Church.

Vera loved her flowers and birds, especially hummingbirds. Some years she would have upwards of 50 hummingbirds at a time. She would fill the feeders' multiple times each day, going through over 10lbs of sugar in less than a week. Flowers were everywhere on the farm, surrounding the house, around the drive, around the sheds, and lining the fences. The slat fence lining the front of the property was old and rotting and it was recommended to her to tear it down. That idea was immediately shot down. Vera instructed it to be replaced to support all of her many birdhouses and as a backdrop for her hundreds of flowers. She ran the farm like a ship's captain, nothing happened without her direction and involvement.

Vera's family was her pride and joy. Success to her was based upon God and family. She and Frank made sure all her sons and daughters were active participants in farm life and worked closely together and that helped developed a warm and loving family. After raising 3 boys and a girl, Vera was blessed with a granddaughter that she raised as a second daughter. Her children were her gift from God. Vera's faith and love provided her with great peace in her passing into the Hands of her Lord.

She is survived by, Rex (Vicki) Waymire of Lakeland, FL., Wayne Waymire of Delphi, Mike (Susie) Waymire of Camden, Susan Waymire (George Cook) of Monticello, Sherry (Justin) Brown of Lafayette. Also survived by a brother William (Connie) Maffett of Monticello, and her dear friend of 85 years, Larry Brown of Lafayette, IN., 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 19 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Frank Waymire, parents William and Orvenia Maffett, sisters Lorraine Weddle, Ruth Garvin, Shirley Maffett, Mildred Golden, and daughter-in-law Cathy Waymire.
