Velma Lucille Bruce, 82, of Harrisburg died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at South Hampton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Nilson Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in southern Randolph County.
Velma was born April 5, 1922, in Columbia to Elmer and Pearl Duncan Benton. She married Earnest "Shorty" Bruce on Nov. 22, 1940, in Randolph County. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Leon Bruce of New Caney, Texas; two daughters, Doris Hollrah of Omaha, Neb., and Fay Miller of Harrisburg; four brothers, Roy Hamilton of Moberly, Thomas Benton and Junior Benton, both of Mexico, Mo., and Donald Benton; 10 grandchildren, Gale Wren, Kevin Bruce, Greg Bruce, Michael Bruce, Angie Johnson, Monica Hollrah, Derek Hollrah, Sara Hollrah, Chad Hollrah and Marie Bradshaw; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Kenneth Bruce; and two sisters, Helen Irene Henderson and Evelyn Ray.
