Kennedy Hunter Blake was born in about 1845 to Caleb Abernathy Blake and Catherine Johnson, both originally from South Carolina.

He served in the Civil War (1861-62), Confederate Army, Hampton Legion Infantry, Company D Gist Rifles, and was in the Battle of First Manassas. He was discharged Feb. 1862 due to illness (typhoid). (Record can be found at fold3.com.)

In about 1867 he married Sarah Sagora "Sallie" Campbell in South Carolina (probably Anderson Co.). Their first child Ella A. was born in South Carolina in about 1868.

The family moved to Whitfield Co., Georgia for a short time, where their second child, Permilia Catherine Blake, was born in 1870. Kennedy's father Caleb had died there the previous year.

In 1871, the family, including his widowed mother Catherine and other Blake relatives, moved to Fannin Co., Texas.

Kennedy and Sallie had three more known children born in Texas - Minnie (1877), Dora (1882), and Vada (1885).

Kennedy is believed to be buried in Fannin Co., Texas, although his grave has not yet been located.
