She was the daughter of Caleb Abernathy Blake and Catherine Johnson, both originally from South Carolina. Caleb Blake and his family moved from South Carolina to Whitfield Co., Georgia in the 1860s, during or soon after the Civil War, and he died there in 1869.
In 1871, Caleb's widow Catherine and most of their children moved to Fannin Co., Texas. Martha "Carrie" was about 17 years old at the time.
She married (1) C.L. Pearson in Fannin Co. April 12, 1874 and they had one known child - May Pearson. C.L. died before the 1880 census.
She married (2) David Harrison Trout in Fannin Co. Nov. 24, 1880. They had three children - Beulah V., Oney Lee, and Grace J. Trout.
They lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma before settling in the Denison area of Grayson Co., Texas. She died there in 1934 and her husband in 1936.
