Charles Micklo, 84, of Geary Wolf Road, Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Dowdentown, Jan 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary 'Havrishko' Micklo.
He was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church, Ravine. He was employed at and retired from the former Lebanon Steel Foundry as a casting stamper.
He was a private in the Army during WWII, having served with the 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Central Pacific and GO 33 & 40 WD 45. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Asia-Pacific Theater Service Medal with one bronze star and the WWII Victory Medal.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, George Micklo; Stephen Micklo; and Joseph Micklo; and a sister Mary 'Micklo' Lango.
Surviving are his wife Mary Jane 'Koshulsky' Micklo, to whom he would have been married 50 years this November; a son Peter Micklo, Pine Grove, three stepdaughters, Ruth 'Kline' Donmoyer and Joanne wife of Mark L. Leiss, both of Lebanon, Catherine, wife of Charles Fessler, Seaford, Del.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Mary Lou Eckles officiating. The viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the American Cancer Society, Schuylkill County Unit, 16 N. Fourth St., Minersville, Pa 17954, in his memory.
