"... Christian and Anna Elizabeth Eggenberger, were born and married in Switzerland, and came to the United States in 1854 on a sailing vessel, being three months on the ocean. Locating first in Buffalo, N. Y., they subsequently wnet to Canada, and in 1865 came to Wabasha County, Minnesota, taking 160 acres of wild land in West Albany Township, which they developed into a farm with good buildings. In the early seventies the father sold the farm and bought one in Glasgow Township, near Theilman village, and besides carrying on agriculture operated a sawmill. Industrious and enterprising, he was also successful in a high degree, and he and his wife were highly respected. They were members and liberal supporters of the German Reformed church in Theilman village. The father died May 2, 1901, and the mother January 25, 1910. Of their family of ten children, three were born in Switzerland, namely: Elizabeth, now Mrs. Bernard Korthaus of Buffalo Gap, Custer County, S. D.; Emil, deceased; and Emma, who died on board ship while crossing the ocean. The children born in this country were as follows: John, a prosperous farmer and sawmill operator in Alberta, Canada; Emma (second), now Mrs. Leonard Sieger, of Buffalo Gap, S. D.; Rosanna, who married Dan Patterson, of Portland, Ore., and is now deceased; Henry, of Theilman, Minn.; Amelia, now Mrs. Frank Laqua, of Alberta, Canada; Christian, of Theilman, and Louise, wife of August Schleicher, a hardware dealer of Millville, Wabasha County, Minn ..." Wabasha County Herald; Jan. 9, 1902
Christin Eggenberger one of the early settlers of the county died at his home in the village of Theilman, soon after midnight, on Wednesday, May 7th, at the advanced age of eighty-two years. He was born in Grabe Canton of Galla, Swithzerland, on September 1st, 1820. Here he was brought up and here he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Keller, the partner of his joys and sorrows. At about the age of 35 years, he with his family came to this country, settling in New York and later moving to Canada where they lived some years . In 1864 the family removed to Wabasha county, settling a short distance from the present village of Theilman. Ten children were born to them, eight of whom with their mother, survives. They are John of Canada, Christ and Henry of Theilman, Mrs. Elizabeth Korthaus, Mrs. Amos Segar of South Dakota, Mrs. Rosana Peterson of Oregon, Mrs. Frank Laqua of this city and Mrs. Louise Schleicher of Millville. The four children in this county with their mother were present at his funeral, the others were unable to get here for the funeral. The cause of death was feebleness incident to old age. Christian Eggenberger was a man of remarkable constitution. He had scarcely known, previous to his last illness what sickness was. He had during his entire life been a hardworking and industrious man, a good neighbor and respectable citizen. He had lived a long and eventful life ever doing good and standing high in the coummunity. It was with sad hearts his old neighbors saw his form laid away in the little cemetary of the German Reformed church beside the churh beneath whose roof he had so earnestly worshiped. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Crum, pastor of the German Reformed church of Theilman.
