The illegal nature of the conscription is not known, but it wasn't age. He also enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 16, 1864, as a private with Co. K, 184th Pennsylvania Infantry. Although noted as "absent at muster out," he was honorably discharged June 30, 1865.
In 1890, he lived in Oxford Township, Adams County. His reported age at death is 60-4-0.

On Saturday, April 8, Louis V [sic] Brady after a lingering illness of consumption and heart disease, died very peacefully sitting in his chair. He had been a great sufferer during the past fall and winter, yet retained strong nerve, and did not fear death. He remarked on Saturday morning to his family "I will not be with you tonight." He died at 2:15 p.m. He was a son of John Brady, Sr., deceased, of this place. Deceased was a soldier in the Civil War, having enlisted in August of 1884 and served nine months. He was a member of Co. K, 184 Regt., Pa. Infantry, 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 2nd Army Corps. HE leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss; John E., Francis G., J Harvey and Nora E., of this place and Mrs. Mary Clemmens, of York, Pa. He was 60 years and 4 months.
