ALTA MARY BROWN

RANTOUL Alta Mary Brown, 95, of Rantoul, died at 6:33 a.m. Saturday (Mary 8, 1999) at Manor Care, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 311 W. Grove St. Rantoul, the Rev Jeffrey Laible and the Rev Stanley Malinowski officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery,Rantoul. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove St. Rantoul, with a prayer service at 4.
Mrs. Brown was born June 11, 1903 in Padua, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Cleary Head. She married James D Brown Dec 26, 1923 in Ludlow. He died April 26, 1969.
Survivors include four sons, James Brown of Grand Ridge, Eugene Brown of Wauwatosa, Wis., Phillip Brown of Henry and Joe Brown of Rantoul; two daughters, Ann Miller of Aurora and Judith Franks of Philo; a sister, Mary Jo Collins of Challis, Idaho; 42 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, two grandchildren, four sisters and a brother.
Mrs Brown was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.
She taught for 12 years at Ludlow/Penfield area country schools and for 16 years at Gifford grade school, retiring in 1968. She continued to work as a substitute for 10 years after retirement. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association.
She enjoyed gardening and painting.
