Maria Asche

Friends and neighbors were saddened to hear the tidings that Mrs. Wiert Asche passed away last Sunday afternoon at about 5:30 o'clock at her home in the east part of Kanawha. Mrs. ASche had not been in the best of health for a number of years, but was still able to be up and about. However, last Thursday forenoon she was smitten with a heart attack which at once made her condition critical. She was summoned fromthis early life 2 days after her 75th birthday.

Maria Heyerhorst was born in Weener Province, Ostfriesland, Germany, April 20, 1870. About 26 years later she came to Forreston, Ill., where she was united in marriage to Wiert Asche on March 24, 1896, the late Rev. L. Watermiller performing the ceremony. They remained in Illinois until 1913, when they moved to Iowa, making their home on a farm two miles south and 1 mile west of Kanawha. After 25 years of farming in this vicinity they retired and made their home in Kanawha on Feb. 24, 1938. She was summoned by death on April 22, 1945, at the age of 75 yeras and 2 days.

Mrs. Asche was a loving and devoted wife, motherandgrandmother, providing a happy home where the children with their families loved to gather. She was baptized whilein Germany and in America she became a member of the Reformed Church of Forreston, Ill. Oct. 13, 1920, she became a member of the local Christian Reformed Church where she continued her membership, being faithful in the use of the means of grace, trusting the Lord Jesus as her Savior.

Her departure is deeply mourned by her devoted husband and 7 children: Joe, Louis, Claus, Ben, Engle, Fred and Frieda. 4 stepchildren: Wiert, Tena, Tabbe, and Martha, 41 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Four children, all dying in infancy, preceded her in death.
