Ellen Barker Monahan, 70, died October 31, 1980, at the McKay-Dee Hospital.

She was born October 7, 1910, in North Ogden, a daughter of William Nathan and Iva Bailey Barker. She married George E. Monahan on December 21, 1940, in North Ogden.

She graduated from Weber High School and Brigham Young University. She also attended University of Utah, Utah State and USC.

She is a member of the Weber County Association of Retired Teachers. She is also a charter member of Utah Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and International Women's Educators Sorority.

She began her teaching career in in 1959 at Roy Junior High School retiring in 1976. She was head of the English Department for the ten years prior to her retirement. She is a member of the Ogden 20th LDS Ward where she had served as coordinator and chorister in the Junior Sunday School for about 25 years. She is a former member of the Ogden Stake Sunday School Board and teacher in the Sunday School and MIA.

She is survived by her husband of Ogden and one daughter, Patricia Neves, Salt Lake City and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are her mother and two brothers, Ray B. Barker and Carl N. Barker, and one sister, Mrs. Larry A. (Florence)Dastrup, Ogden.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2pm in the Larkin Chapel of the Dawn where friends may call Sunday Sunday from 6 to 8pm and Monday until services. Interment in the North Ogden Cemetery.
