Ray Bailey Barker

NORTH OGDEN – Ray Bailey Barker passed away peacefully on November 4, 2007, at his home. He was surrounded by his children and his loving wife. Ray passed away in the same room that he was born in 86 years ago on June 22, 1921.

Ray is the son of William Nathan and Iva Adelia Bailey Barker. He was born in North Ogden and farmed there all his life. He graduated from Weber High and Weber College. He served an honorable LDS mission to the Eastern States.

Ray married Fern Elaine Wagstaff on November 21, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of Ivan (Debbie) Barker, Susan (Bob) Adams, Bonnie (Bob) Brueckner, Peggy Barker, Max (Marianne) Barker, John (Nora) Barker, Rod (Melanie) Barker, Bryce (Staci) Barker and Lisa (Jeff) Johnson.

Ray has been actively involved in the LDS Church his entire life. He has a strong testimony of the gospel and has served in many leadership positions. He has always been a faithful home teacher. At every opportunity, Ray was a missionary. He was always willing and anxious to serve others.

Ray loved farming. He loved the land and the cows. He was always proud of his dairy herd earning the Top Grade A award each month. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have many fond memories of the farm. Life on the farm helped Ray teach each of his children the value of hard work. The farm also helped Ray with stressing the importance of church and education, as his children were able to "escape" some of the worst of the chores if they were attending school or at church. Ray was always extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments.

Ray is survived by his wife, his nine children, 40 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Carl Barker, and his sister Florence Dastrup.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ellen, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

The family wishes to thank Hospice for all their compassionate care. We love and appreciate them.
In lieu of flowers, Ray would be honored by donations to either the L.D.S. Missionary fund or Hospice for Utah.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the No. Ogden 11th Ward, 2250 No. Fruitland Drive. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 9th at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
