MAIL MAN TAKES OWN LIFE
Garland Clary, 27, Rural Carrier Out of Greensburg, Hung Himself in a Barn Sunday Afternoon.

Garland S. Clary, 27, Greensburg mail carrier, took his life at his home in Greensburg about 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon by hanging, just eight days after the death of his only child, 5-year-old Edna Blanche Clary, an invalid since birth and whose death appeared to weigh heavily on him.
Mr. Clary had sent Mrs. Clary out to telephone and when she returned a few minutes later he was missing. Going to the barn to look for him, she saw through a hoy hole hisn body hanging in the loft. Several neighbors were called in and the body was cut down by Dr. E. E. Symmonds and C. H. Brosius. The doctor found a spark of life remaining, but Mr. Clary lived only a few minutes.
Services were at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Millport Christian Church, Millport, by the Rev. L. F. Gerard of Knox City. He was buried by the grave of his daughter in the Millport cemetery.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Clary of near Knox City, Garland Samuel Clary was born Aug. 6, 1901. He attended the Vice school north of Knox City and the Edina High School. He passed civil services examinations in 1921 and was appointed rural mail carrier at Greensburg, a position he held until his death.
Mr. Clary married Miss Marie Westphall of Millport Dec. 2, 1922. They had but the one child, who died a week before him. He had an attack of flu about three weeks before his death, but had complained only of his head hurting him.
Besides his wife and parents, two sisters and four brothers survive. They are: Mrs. Bennie Morrisgon of near Rutledge, Mrs. Newbry Woodward of about twelve miles southeast of Edina, Austin and Bruce Clary of eight miles southeast of Edina, Ulysses G. Clary of seven miles southeast of Edina, and Ralph Clary of four miles east of Edina.
