Marie Ruth Grabowski, 78, of Baring, longtime resident of Knox County and a rural mail carrier for many years, died at 2:04 p.m. Wednesday (Feb 20, 1985) at Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville.

Born April 3 1906 in Knox County near Millport, she was the daughter of Frederick William and Clara Leora (Parrish) Westphal. On Dec 02 1922, she married Garland Samuel Clary who preceded her in death on Jan 06, 1929. One daughter was born to this marriage. On Dec 24, 1936 in Chicago she married Raymond Lee Grabowski who survives.

Also surviving are three brothers, Newland H Westphal of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Wallace W Westphal of Leawood, Kansas and Delbert E Westphal of LaCanada, California and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Edna Blanche Clary who died Dec. 29 1928; a brother Fred "Buddy" Westphal who died Dec. 05 1973 and two sisters Allie Simpson who died May 02 1947 and Sophia Simpson who died May 12 1983.

Mrs. Grabowski served as a substitute rural mail carrier starting in 1927 and became a regular carrier in September 1929. For several years she delivered mail on horseback. She retired June 30 1961 after thirty-two and one-half years. Mrs. Grabowski was a member of the Millport Christian Church, Greensburg chapter No 258 order of Eastern Star, the Greensburg Willing Workers Club and served on the Greensburg Cemetery Board.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Feb 23, 1985) at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina with the Rev. Archie Cooper of Kirksville officiating. Burial will be in the Greensburg cemetery. Eastern Star services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hudson-Rimer Chapel in Edina.
