John M. Dunk, 77, a widely known native of this section of the state, went to Oakwood, Ill., Saturday, for a visit with relatives. Monday morning he died, suddenly, of a heart attack. The body was brought to the Kleinsmith mortuary to be prepared for the funeral and burial. The service was conducted at the Reformed church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, by Rev. Replogle, a Brethren minster of Rossville, Rev. C. J. Snyder participating. The burial was in the Swank cemetery, near Pettit.
The deceased had been married three times. His first wife was Loretta Swank, a daughter of Peter and Sarah Swank. By this marriage he was the father of three sons and two daughters – Bert, of Mulberry; Clarence, of Alberta, Canada; Russell, R. R. 4, Lafayette; Mrs. Thomas Ewing, Rossville, and Mrs. Effie Anderson, Ottawa, Ill.
While this wife was living, the family resided in the vicinity of Pettit. After her death, in 1926, Mr. Dunk married Mrs. H. H. Malicoat, a woman who was reared in the home of Uncle Dave Slipher, her maiden name having been Drusilla Andrews. The couple took up their residence on North Fairhaven street in Mulberry, where they remained until Mrs. Dunk's demise.
Mr. Dunk's third marriage was with Mrs. Mary (Freas-Covely) Bankson, who passed away in the past year or so.
Besides the children, the surviving relatives are: one brother, Charles, of St. Louis, Mo., and five half-brothers – Henry and Jerome, of Mulberry; Tony, Dayton; Freeman and Orley, of Lafayette, and Henry, of Brookston. Two full brothers are deceased – Albert and William, and a sister, Anna, is also dead.
There are fifteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
