Ray was the son of Warren and Sarah Minkler Hutchins and was born on a farm southeast of Central City. He married Blanch Sigmund, daughter of Paul and Loal Wagner Sigmund, on Jan 1, 1914. They farmed until 1945 when they moved to Cedar Rapids. In 1960 they moved to Long Beach, Cal and then to Ft Collins, CO for their remaining years. They had 2 sons: Edwin Paul and Max Ray. Ray died April 25, 1969 and Blanche died June 21, 1981. Both are buried in Mt Clark Cemetery.
