Rachel Susanne -"Nannie"- Harshbarger was born to David A. and Mary E. (Fraker)Harshbarger, one of "These Nine" in the family photograph. She was married first to Gilbert Joshua Royston in 1894; he died 1905, leaving her with 6 Royston sons: Felix Garland, William M, Joseph Martin, David A, James, and Gilbert D.
Nannie Royston remarried, to Charlie Cochran on 31 January 1909, in Greene County, TN; this was his 2nd marriage also. Charlie's first wife was Mattie (Shanks) Cochran, who died in 1907 after giving birth to their last child, leaving him with 5 children: Pearle, Anna, Grace, Ralph, and Eddie... Grandparents Milburn & Mary A. Shanks helped raise these children after their mother died.
Together, Nannie and Charlie Cochran increased their family by 6 more children: Fred, Herb, Maude, Albert, Murrel, and John M. - and moved to Iowa in 1923.

Nannie Cochran died 27 December, 1946, and is buried in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Johnson Co, Iowa. Charlie Cochran is buried beside his first wife Mattie, in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, Greeneville, Greene Co, Tennessee.

Nannie & Charlie Cochran were my husband's grandparents; their son Albert Thacker Cochran was my husband's father.
