The Daily Register-Mail (Galesburg IL) – Page 21 – Monday, May 21, 1956:

George W. Kennedy, 87, of 119 N. Henderson St., died Sunday at 10:35 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, where he had been admitted Saturday morning. He had been in declining health the past four years.

He was born Dec. 11, 1868, in Galesburg and attended St. Joseph's Academy and Corpus Christi High School. He was married Oct. 21, 1889, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, to Mary Jane Godsill. She died Jan. 31, 1939. Mr. Kennedy was employed several years by the Burlington Railroad, before retiring 24 years ago this month as foreman of the machine shops. He was a charter member of the Burlington Veterans, was a 50-year member of Galesburg Council No. 556, Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.J. (Lillian) Soukey of Galesburg, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Roy E. (Virginia) Farmer of St. Joseph, Mo.; three sons, George M. Kennedy of Riverside, Lyle Kennedy of New York City, N.Y., and W. Marion Kennedy of Galesburg, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 9 am. In Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday at the Foley Mortuary, where prayers will be recited at 8 p.m.
